Why have our own setup.exe?
The answer is: KEEP IT SIMPLE.
Using some popular installer we found that the download size was much geater. In the case of AllCalc, one of the leading installer programs was generating an archive file of over 1 Meg while our own Setup generates an archive file of 525K: half.
What does setup.exe do?
DevelCor's applications make very little use of Windows registry, that is why they are so easy to remove (just delete them). Instead they store their important data in a .CFG file.
Setup installs the application on your machine, generates the .CFG file and makes 2 entries in the registry: one for keeping track of which application version is installed, the second to enable Windows uninstall feature.
Setup generates a log file. A quick look at this log file will show you the files which were added to your system as well as the registry keys which were created. The uninstall feature of Setup uses that log file to cleanup your system.
